Outstanding Care 24/7

When residents need services of a medical nature, our 125-bed licensed Health Care Center (HCC) offers exceptional long-term-care living to residents who require 24-hour nursing care or to residents temporarily recuperating from a hospital stay. Semi-private and private rooms are available.

Located right here on our Sun City campus, down a short hallway from our main reception area, the HCC also has Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy on site. Royal Oaks' residents needing those services do not have to be transported to an off-site facility, making the recuperation process much less stressful.

Activities are plentiful. A guest pianist may perform one day on the grand piano while the next week may bring a complete choral group to entertain or a hands-on demonstration of crafts may round out another day.  We feel that faster healing occurs when residents are social, entertained, and relaxed, which is why many find the patio a soothing place to sit and overlook the Rose Garden.

Fifty three of our HCC beds are in a secured Memory Care Wing of the HCC, where the focus is progressive and palliative care, including sensory stimulation activities. A variety of cognitive and physical support exercises are part of daily life in this area and the nursing staff engages residents to share stories and talk about current events.

For resident comfort, eating venues are plentiful in the HCC.  Four different dining rooms serve residents based on their care need. Each one invites residents to form social circles and guests are always welcome.

Not only is the HCC a happy and tranquil place, it is also a well-respected medical facility utilizing an entirely electronic medical record system. This technology increases interaction with residents and the quality of care. Patient data is accessed in real-time, resulting in addressing resident needs extremely efficient.

We currently have 7 Registered Nurses (RNs) who work fulltime in our care center on the units, 2 RNs who work in the Wellness Center and as clinical educators, and 2 administrative RNs. That includes Dina Capek, the Director of Health Services, who oversees the operations of the care center.  She is on call 24/7 for any nursing need to support, advise, and ensure that the residents' nursing needs are covered during their stay.  In addition, we have 21 Licensed Practical Nurses on staff, most of which are fulltime nurses.  Four of these nurses are in the process of completing their Associate's degree in nursing and look forward to becoming RNs.

Our nurses are all certified in IV therapy, Long Term Care Nursing and trained in Basic and Advanced Wound Care.  We pride ourselves in providing the best education programs and opportunities for continued learning and skill competencies.  This is directly reflected in our repeated state survey results and the Excellent Rating we receive each year.

Our nurses are committed to quality care through evidence-based practices and are receptive to ongoing training and meeting the high expectations of our residents.  We also have a wonderful team of certified nursing assistants, with many of them being a part of our team for 10, 15, 20 or more years.  Additionally, we host a number of clinical rotations each year for students who are training to become C.N.A.s and RNs.  The classes are from one of the many Maricopa Community Colleges or Arizona State University.  The feedback from these schools is that Royal Oaks is the primo training experience for exposure to caring for seniors and they love coming to learn from us.

Midwestern University programs including pharmacy, dental, physical/occupational therapy, and (coming soon) optometry have students on our campus for their community learning classes and internships because Royal Oaks has such tremendous opportunities for students to see how quality care is delivered daily.  We take great pride in being a training ground for so many disciplines who may one day work to care for seniors.
