About Us

Royal Oaks Lifecare, a financially sound retirement community, started as a dream of Dr. J. Davis Illingworth and Mr. Roe Walker. In the winter of 1983, Royal Oaks opened its doors. Through the years, Royal Oaks has made improvements, built new structures, and acquired additional land. The 38-acre campus includes 258 Independent Living Apartments, 102 Independent Living Garden Homes, 59 Assisted Living apartments, a 56-suite Memory Care Center and a 57-suite Complete Supportive Living building for gracious long-term-care assistance.

Royal Oaks is home to approximately 600 residents and maintains a strong and stable financial standing. We have a net worth of over $25 million. Royal Oaks is one of only a handful of communities across the nation that has received an "A" rating from Fitch Ratings, a global credit rating agency.

A tremendous tax benefit is provided to seniors when entering a Life Plan Community/CCRC. Since the IRS recognizes campuses like ours as medical facilities, Lifecare residents are allowed to deduct a certain percentage of the Entrance Fee AND Monthly Service Fee as medical deductions. The percentage is substantial for our residents--the Royal Oak representative will be able to elaborate. We encourage incoming residents to get financial advice on how best to take advantage of this benefit, based on your personal situation. This article from Smart Money magazine may be of interest.

Royal Oaks is a non-profit and residents are assured their fees will come back to them during their life stay. These promises are also backed by the People of Faith Foundation, Inc. which holds over $15 million in investment assets. The reserves are set aside to ensure that no resident, who through no fault of their own becomes unable to make their monthly service fee payment, would be asked to leave. This is an astounding promise, and it has been kept for thousands of Royal Oaks' residents for nearly three decades.

Security is the first word that comes to mind when a resident is asked what made them choose Royal Oaks. The peace of mind that comes with knowing you will be taken care of for life, and that you will never be asked to leave, regardless of the care you need. Independent Living Garden HomesApartmentsAssisted LivingMemory Support, and Complete Supportive Living are all part of the senior living services offered at our continuum of care community. On our campus, your Entrance Fee payment ensures you will receive whatever care required. That security extends to financial peace of mind since our Type A Life Plan Community/CCRC provides those higher levels of care without an increase in your monthly fee.

Royal Oaks Independent Living services allow you to live a free and active lifestyle in which you can choose from a variety of housing options including homes and apartments ranging from 1900 sq. ft. to 650 sq. ft.  Assisted Living services at our Illingworth Center affords the very best of both worlds: a chance to retain your independence yet obtain personalized and professional assistance whenever you need it. Those with memory support needs will find our built-in-2015 Friendship House an ideal place to get the care needed and enjoy life. The Care Center for Complete Support Living provides for long term care when the other care levels aren't quite enough for you. Of course, all residences have emergency call systems and our gated community is patrolled by our security staff 24/7.  You are encouraged to utilize our Wellness Center, staffed by RNs, for non-emergency medical care.

Royal Oaks prides itself on having a service-rich environment because you've earned it. Residents enjoy a flexible dining plan with choices ranging from casual bistros to elegant, maître de-hosted venues. Our scheduled transportation service for medical visits, shopping, entertainment, and more means less driving for residents and more places to go!  In fact, our full-time activities coordinators arrange events, trips, concerts, ballgames, and soirees to all kinds of interesting places. The Learning Tree—a resident-run, lifelong learning program—keeps residents buzzing on subjects from politics to painting, while VitaliTree, a resident-run program focusing on mind, body, and spirit, allows residents to explore an even healthier way of life.

There's no need to fret about any home maintenance. Our retirement community services ensure the exterior of your home and the common areas are meticulously maintained, as is the interior, even including changing your light bulbs. Our staff of housekeepers keeps your home shining; and their peers in the laundry department make sure your sheets and towels are freshly laundered each week. The heat and air conditioning are individually controlled for your comfort and that expense is included in your monthly service fee, as is water and trash removal. Land lines and internet are the only utilities billed separately. Our robust satellite TV system with expanded channel line-ups, HD, and DVR, is free to you.
